The Bureaucrats Just Don’t Get It!
The recent MNP Consumer Debt Report revealed some frightening facts about the financial state of many Canadians. In
BC, it is now reported that half of us are just $200 away from being insolvent.
Nearly one-third say they are already insolvent.
In the meantime, Nanaimo taxpayers will be looking at
double-digit tax increases this year with the common refrain “it is only $XX.xx
more”. When you are $200 away from not being able to pay your bills or are one
of the third who can’t pay their bills now, anything the city wants to take from
your pocket is not a small matter.
The people on the public payroll can’t likely
identify with those of us who are looking insolvency in the eye. If you are one
of those taking part of the $65,000,000.00+ city payroll the idea of having to
come up with another $50.00/mo doesn’t seem like a big deal.
City staff earning more than our Premier might have
a hard time understanding the reality 50% of British Columbians are living
right now.

The Council, led by Mayor Krog, has raised taxes more than any other previous council and they seem to be totally tone deaf to the reality of the average Nanaimo taxpayer. Perhaps when all of your associates are all living large at the taxpayers' expense, identifying with the little people seems absurd.
